A Fun Way to Learn Languages: Exploring Frame VR and Wonda VR

A Fun Way to Learn Languages: Exploring Frame VR and Wonda VR

Hello everyone, welcome to ICT Language Lab. Today I will introduce a fun way to learn languages to all the teachers, which is VR learning😊. Next I will talk about two VR tools that can help you learn English. They are Frame VR and Wonda VR.

I. Introduction

  • Frame VR (https://framevr.io/warwickunivr2025)
  • Frame VR is an online virtual space. Users enter a 3D environment with virtual characters. You can move freely in this space. You can also interact with the "professors" here. Besides, many people can use this platform at the same time. This means you can doing teaching activities with your students here. Students can talk with each other too👭. When they have questions, they can ask the teacher right away, and they can also ask the "professors" on the platform for help.

Besides, this platform can give students a more immersive experience. These "professors" will use some gestures to imitate the way real people think when they answer questions. They also use emojis😀 in their replies. It feels like you are really talking with real people.

You can also change your view here, which makes the whole experience very immersive.

I think there is another very useful function for teachers. Teachers can design the space according to their own class needs. They can also add teaching materials📑into the space. This is great for activities like poster presentations. In this space, you can add the pictures you need. They will become 3D after you add them. It is perfect for students to show their work and look at others' projects. They can do this without time or distance limits.

  • Wonda VR (https://spaces.wondavr.com/)
Wonda VR is also an online virtual learning platform. It is very suitable for combining with TBLT teaching. Teachers can create teaching scenarios according to their own teaching needs, such as simulating a job interview or practicing how to order food. Now, let's take a look at how to create different scenarios together. I will use ordering food as an example.🍜

First, click "Create a new experience" to create your own space.

Second, Follow the instructions and enter your prompt, and then your space will be ready.

Third, click "Create a new experience" again, and then choose a template.

And then, click the avatar in the space and a dialogue box will appear. Then click "Edit" in the upper right corner of the dialogue box to set the avatar's characteristics and the scenario.

Once everything is set up, you can start the immersive ordering experience. It's really simple, right? Feel free to give it a try!💪

Wonda VR is very suitable for connecting language learning with daily life. As I mentioned earlier, it works particularly well with TBLT teaching activities. Students can not only learn in simulated real-life situations, but also take part in role-playing in this virtual space. I think one of the great features of Wonda VR is the avatar settings. Teachers can design different scenarios and levels of difficulty for different students, which makes the learning experience very student-friendly.

Ⅱ. Differences

  • Frame VR is more like an open space that requires users to explore on their own, while Wonda VR guides users to explore step by step according to the instructions. Although both Frame VR and Wonda VR allow multiple users to participate at the same time, based on my experience, I think Frame VR is more suitable for group activities. This is because it offers a larger and freer space where students can explore together. They can also interact with each other through different actions and emojis. In contrast, Wonda VR mainly focuses on interacting with the avatar in the space, so it may be less engaging👀 than Frame VR.
  • In addition, Wonda VR is more theme-based. Teachers usually design scenarios with clear purposes, and the themes are very specific, such as exercising💪, going on a vacation, or job interviews. Frame VR can't easily achieve this kind of function. Moreover, Wonda VR is more flexible in teaching. Teachers can adjust the language difficulty according to students' levels. In Frame VR, teachers can't control the difficulty of the responses or questions from these "professors", which may make it difficult for students with lower language proficiency to learn effectively😔.

Ⅲ. Limitations

Both of them are VR tools, so they are affected by the limitations of internet connections and electronic devices. They may not be very friendly for younger students, as they might not have access to these devices. In addition, both tools can be difficult to explore at the beginning, and the preparation process can be quite time-consuming, which requires a higher level of effort from teachers😖. For example, setting up a poster exhibition and generating 3D posters in Frame VR can take a lot of time. Finally, it is difficult for teachers to monitor students. Students may talk with avatars in the virtual space about things that are not related to learning. I think that this is also a common problem with many online learning tools🙎.

Now, it's your turn to explore!👍

  2. This blog is well organized by the three sections and is reallly help for me as a future teacher. However, I personally think some fonts should be uniformed like the second subtitle and the rest of them. (maybe I'm a bit ocd...) also in the beginning it says"Wonda VR" then from the rest of the blog i can tell its Monda VR. So next time you could pay more attention to the typo ^^
